Two Newcastle United players were in action at Wembley tonight as England suffered a 1-0 friendly defeat to Brazil.

Bruno Guimaraes started for the visitors while Anthony Gordon made his England debut on the left side of the Three Lions attack.

Both players came up against each other on numerous occasions and their nights lasted pretty much the same amount of time as Bruno was withdrawn mere moments after Anthony Gordon made way for Marcus Rashford in the second half.

Anthony Gordon certainly didn't harm his chances of booking a spot on that plane bound for Germany in the summer with his first performance for Gareth Southgate.

Gordon was very impressive on his England debut

Gordon was actually England's biggest goal threat while he was on the pitch as we saw his trademark curling shot tried a few times, often resulting in an England corner.

He also came dangerously close to scoring in the second half when the ball fell to his feet following a set piece, but the Brazil 'keeper was equal to it.

Bruno Guimaraes had a relatively quiet game for Brazil. In fact, the most we saw of him was usually after he'd be scythed down by an England player with Jude Bellingham felling the Brazilian early on.

The first and only goal of the game came after the Newcastle United interest had ended, with the goal coming by 17-year-old debutant Endrick who had only been on the pitch a matter of minutes before tapping into an open net. The number two on the NXGN Top 50 Wonderkids list for 2024 certainly living up to the hype.

It was a decent game for a friendly with plenty of action. In fact, had it not been a friendly, Bruno's bestie, Lucas Paqueta could, and probably would have seen red for persistent fouling, but he managed to get away with it and even came the closest to scoring for the Brazilians before making way for the eventual goalscorer Endrick.

Newcastle's boys seemed to come away unscathed which was really the main thing tonight, but a Gordon debut goal would have been a nice touch.
