Newcastle United's flying winger Anthony Gordon is away with the England camp as two more Nations League games are to be played over the next week.

Gordon faced the media ahead of the clash with Greece tonight (7:45pm kick-off), and there was a lot of focus on the incoming England boss, Thomas Tuchel, with Anthony Gordon almost joining Chelsea from Everton while Tuchel was boss.

The Blues tried to bring Gordon to Stamford Bridge while Frank Lampard was at the helm for Everton but their advances were turned down and six months later Gordon signed for Newcastle in a £45 million switch.

It took Gordon another six months or so to find his feet on Tyneside, later admitting he found it very difficult to get up to Eddie Howe's lofty standards.

Anthony Gordon reveals he was close to joining Chelsea before Newcastle

In his press conference (via The Chronicle), Gordon spoke of his desperation to play under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.

"I was desperate to go at the time and work with him especially. I felt like my style would suit his style of play, the way he was playing at Chelsea which was very exciting for me. It didn't end up happening.

"It was a big opportunity for me that didn't end up happening and I'm looking forward to getting to work with him a couple of years later."

As excited as Gordon is to finally link up with the German, he's not letting his focus slip away from the immediate task at hand and is looking for revenge over Greece who beat England at Wembley last month. Gordon talked down the idea that the players were feeling the need to impress the incoming boss who has chosen to not attend this week's matches.

"I wouldn't say for the new manager to be honest just because that's way too far into the future.

"We have got to be present with what's in front of us. We're facing a Greece team who have just beaten us, and we've still got Lee [Carsley] in charge and we have to impress him. All focus is on that right now and putting that game right from last time we played them."
