Anthony Gordon bags goal for England to set Three Lions off on five goal romp
England have qualified for the World Cup in North America next year with two games yet to play in Qualifying Group K.
Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon got England off the mark in Riga on Tuesday night, scoring a typical Gordon goal.
The pacey winger beat the offside trap, latching on to a superb lofted through ball, gathering the ball in his stride and working the ball onto his right foot inside the area and curling an effort into the bottom corner.
Harry Kane added two goals of his own, and an own goal was followed up by an Eberechi Eze peach to book England's place in next year's competition in style.
Anthony Gordon had the final ball he's been missing last night
We don't want to get too carried away, as it was only Latvia, but we are starting to see the improvement under Thomas Tuchel after a very iffy start.
More importantly, we are absolutely buzzing for Gordon getting his second goal for England. That should give him a nice confidence boost as he returns to Newcastle to prepare for Brighton on Saturday.
We've been critical of Gordon's final ball lately, and the Toon winger was let down by Harry Kane early on last night, putting it on a plate for the Bayern Munich striker, who fired wide.
Anthony Gordon is looking more and more like his old self
Gordon took matters into his own hands on the half-hour mark with his goal, and he keeps making more and more of a case for being England's starter down the left.
There's some stiff competition for that spot, but Gordon made a good case for himself last night.
Now we just need him to bring that endeavour back to Newcastle for the weekend, and hopefully he can drive the Magpies on to another win.
