Anthony Elanga hints that Alexander Isak tried to call him last night admid Newcastle United transfer rumours

The rumours linking Newcastle United with Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga reappeared yesterday as the Magpies make their first move.

A report came out suggesting that Newcastle have made contact with Nottingham Forest with an enquiry over the Swedish winger.

It comes after a failed last-ditch attempt to take Elanga off Forest's hands on last summer's transfer deadline day.

There's clearly a strong interest from Newcastle, and after missing out on Bryan Mbeumo, it seems Elanaga is the preferred Plan B.

The 23-year-old was in action for Sweden last night as they beat Hungary 2-0 in an international Friendly.

While Elanga had a good game, it seems he left his shooting boots at home, admitting that he could have scored four goals.

Of course, in his post-match interview, he was asked about the rumours linking him with Newcastle United.

Elanga rolled out the stock response of "I'm just focusing on myself", as reported by Swedish outlet Expressen.

“I guess there will always be scouts wherever I play. As long as I stay focused and do my best in the match. I just keep my focus and what I can control. That’s what I can do on and off the field. I focus on the next day and action. That’s what I can do."

He was then asked if he'd received a call from Newcastle's Alexander Isak as the press pushed him on the issue, but Elanga played it off with a joke.

“He must have tried to call me about the match, that I should have scored.”
