Amazing scenes as Newcastle United pick up vital away win at expense of horrendously poor Tottenham Hotspur
Newcastle United returned to winning ways tonight down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the hosts put up the most minimal fight they could.
It was far from a perfect performance by the Magpies, but they did more than enough to control the game and were good value for their win.
We had big questions over the team selection, but once again, we have to doff our cap to Eddie Howe as he did get it right, ultimately.
Jacob Ramsey had his best game in a Newcastle shirt and fully deserved his goal, and Joe Willock, alongside him, was everywhere. Although I think we need to check referee Anthony Taylor's internet history to see if he was the one who sent Willock that abuse a couple of weeks ago, as he clearly has something against him.
Newcastle wasted no time restoring their lead in the second half
Malick Thiaw gave Newcastle the lead on the stroke of half-time, just moments after Joe Willock saw a goal chalked off for the most ridiculously tight offside you're ever likely to see.
Durham-born Archie Gray gave Spurs an undeserved lifeline from their first corner of the match early in the second half, but it lasted just three minutes.
Anthony Gordon, who was invisible for much of the game, popped up when it mattered to provide the assist for Jacob Ramsey to get his first goal for the club, which ultimately proved to be the winner.
The scenes at full-time were outstanding
Things started getting a bit nervy for Newcastle towards the end of the game, as is the tradition, but they held on, and the scenes at full-time were worth every minute of stress.
Eddie Howe was pushed to the front of the group to address the crowd, who responded in kind with raucous noise. The beaming smile back on the gaffer's face after such a tough couple of weeks was great to see.
Jacob Ramsey was next up to face the crowd after his player of the match performance, and he was clearly loving it. It shows that there's still some passion and fight left in this team.
It wasn't all gravy, though, as Bruno Guimaraes went down pretty heavily late on after signalling to the bench he wanted to come off and then changing his mind. That decision may now have cost him as he didn't look in good shape when he hobbled off the field.
