Alexander Isak watches on as Newcastle United new boy bags goal for Sweden in World Cup qualifier
Britain's most expensive footballer, Liverpool's Alexander Isak, had to watch from the bench as an unused substitute as Anthony Elanga fired home a superb goal for Sweden last night.
Given that Alexander Isak hasn't trained properly all summer, it was no surprise to see the former Newcastle United man left on the bench by Jon Dahl Tomasson as Sweden took on Slovenia last night.
Instead, the one-time Newcastle striker opted to play Toon winger Anthony Elanga up front alongside Viktor Gyokeres, and it was a move that paid off pretty quickly.
Elanga was the man who broke the deadlock in a game that would go on to end 2-2.
Anthony Elanga scored a beautifully taken goal for Sweden
Elanga picked up the ball on the halfway line and brought it forward to the edge of the Slovenian area, playing a neat one-two before rounding the goalkeeper and firing home from close range.
It was that little bit of magic that we know he's capable of, but has been slightly absent since his move to Tyneside.
Sweden fans will be wondering, much like Newcastle fans have this season, 'would we have won this if Isak was on the pitch?'. His childish behaviour has cost Newcastle points this season and has now probably cost Sweden two points in their World Cup qualifying group.
Elanga's goal should be a huge confidence boost for the winger
Newcastle full-back Emil Krafth was also an unused substitute and hopefully spent the entire night whispering "rat" into Isak's ear.
We can only hope that Elanga's goal will give him another boost of confidence that he can bring back to Newcastle with him next week.
