Alexander Isak wants to 'explore move away' from Newcastle United - journalist
Good afternoon, Newcastle United fans. How are you all doing? Are you still hanging in there despite all of this never-ending negativity? Hopefully, this one won't tip you over the edge.
After staying behind as the squad jets off to Singapore, there has been non-stop speculation about what this possibly means for the future of Alexander Isak.
The fact that a scan on an alleged thigh injury showed nothing would suggest that he'd be fit enough to travel, even if he wasn't ready to take part in any matches while out in Asia. It would absolutely make sense to have your most valuable asset with you when you're essentially on a massive PR campaign.
Nothing about what's happening adds up to a happy outcome for Newcastle after Isak's exclusion from the squad at Celtic, to training alone this week, and now the phantom injury and Asia's absence.
There's still hope for Newcastle, albeit pretty faint
Right on cue, up pops Craig Hope with his take on the situation, in which he reports for the Daily Mail that Isak has said he wants to explore the idea of moving away from Newcastle this summer amid strong rumours of interest from Liverpool.
Hope does reiterate that Newcastle holds the cards here, given that Isak still has three years remaining on his current deal, so if Liverpool seriously want Isak, they're going to have to pay handsomely to get him.
Additionally, there's still a chance that Isak signs a new contract at Newcastle with a clause that will allow him to leave next year.
Anyone but Liverpool. Please!
So while the article initially sounds like bad news, there's still a chance for a positive resolution for Newcastle.
However, it begs the question whether we want to keep Isak around if he has his heart set on leaving? If a player doesn't want to play for the club, then there's no point keeping them around to drag the team down with them.
If there were a way we could offload Isak to a team outside of the Premier League, that would be ideal, but unless Isak is willing to move to Saudi Arabia, we can only see Liverpool as his next destination, and frankly, the idea of that is beyond nauseating.
