Alexander Isak spotted at old club as Newcastle United star trains away from media circus
Alexander Isak's Newcastle United future is extremely uncertain right now, although if we had to guess, we'd say his future lies elsewhere ... Merseyside.
The fact remains though, that right now, Alexander Isak is under contract at Newcastle United and therefore should be representing the club.
Instead, a 'thigh injury' that didn't show up on a scan is keeping the Swedish star out of Newcastle's pre-season tour of Asia.
As well as that, it has been reported that Isak is not reporting for training at Darsley Park, but is instead training with a personal trainer.
Newcastle's pain will train on his own in Spain
The latest rumour, based on reports from Spain and relayed by The Chronicle, is that Isak is training in Spain, having returned to his old club, Real Sociedad, to use their facilities.
As bad as this looks, it actually makes a whole lot of sense. As we said the other day, we don't expect it would be very fun for Isak having to go through the press circus and a sea of angry fans to get into the club's Benton training ground, so we understand why he'd want to avoid that.
It was said in that report that Isak informed Eddie Howe of his plans, so he's not entirely AWOL, although he has taken it upon himself not to turn up for training where he's supposed to.
Alexander Isak will be expected to play during the Sela Weekender
The Chronicle say they expect Isak to play a part in the Sela Weekender next week if he's still a Newcastle player at that point, which would make sense as he's going to need to get some match fitness in before the season starts, regardless of what side he's turning out for.
Newcastle's first game of the season at St James' Park is going to be a very spicy affair, regardless of which way this goes, with Liverpool heading to St James' Park on the second matchday of the season.
What shirt will Isak be wearing on the day? Will he even play? If he's still at Newcastle, he'll probably have t,o as there'll be no alternative the way things are looking, but if he's moved to Liverpool, they may want to protect him from what is likely going to be a very hostile atmosphere.
At least we've got something to look forward to, eh?
