Despite the fact that Alexander Isak has now tasted success with Newcastle United and lifted a trophy with the Toon Army, there are still those who seem insistent that the Swedish striker will leave the club this summer.
The fact that Newcastle have won their first trophy in 56 years is in no small part down to the likes of Alexander Isak, but it also shows those players who were brought in under the PIF that the promises they were sold on, of winning titles, is a genuine one, and that if you stick around, there will be more.
However, this doesn't suit the narrative for the media in general, and so just hours after hoisting that trophy above his head, rumours started once again, that Isak would be leaving Newcastle in the summer, to join Liverpool, the team they had just beaten in order to lift the cup.
I as about to say you couldn't make it up, but clearly you can, because people keep doing it.
After the celebrations on Sunday, Newcastle's international players headed off to link up with their respective nation's training camps while those not involved headed to Dubai for some much-earned R&R.
Alexander Isak, obviously, headed to Sweden where he was interviewed by Fotbollskanlen, who of course asked him about the transfer stories yet again.
“There’s not much to say, really. I’ve commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times. It’s been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feel there. I’m not thinking about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle. Now we won the cup, but we want to finish strong and reach the Champions League games. That’s where my focus lies.”
The story from Isak hasn't changed, and while he's careful to not rule out a move - because let's be honest, it's not always in the players' control - he is definitely happy at Newcastle and we don't see any signs of him wanting to leave.
Indeed, he also told reporters how he's keen to return to Newcastle after the international break to see the scenes in the city.
"Things like that can’t be described. I think you can only “imagine” how it feels. But it’s an incredible feeling. Wembley packed with all the Newcastle fans there. I’m looking forward to seeing what Newcastle is like as a city after that. I haven’t been back yet.”
That celebration in the city on the 29th March is going to be something spectacular and will likely make the scenes at Wembley look like a golf clap in comparison.
