Alexander Isak fails to spare Sweden's blushes then continues to play victim card in post-match interview
The acrimonious split between Newcastle United and Alexander Isak is showing no sign of healing as things stand.
There will come a time when both sides move on, we're sure, but for now, there's still plenty of needling going on.
Alexander Isak is on international duty with Sweden and due to his decision to skip out on Newcastle's pre-season in order to force through a move to Liverpool, the striker is nowhere near match fit and as such played no part in Sweden's first game in which they drew 2-2 with Slovenia and could only manage 20 minutes in last night's 2-0 defeat to Kosovo.
That leaves Sweden third in their World Cup qualifying group, with many feeling that had Isak been match fit and started both games, Sweden would have more than a single point on the board, much like how Newcastle fans have felt this season.
Alexander Isak is 'glad' he is a Liverpool player
For the first time since his £125 million move, Isak has faced the public media (via Aftonbladet), and the new Liverpool number 9 is continuing to play the victim card while refusing to give any details.
“It’s great that things were cleared up before the squad and that I could focus on playing football again. It’s been a fairly new situation for me, but you always learn and develop mentally off the pitch too.
“It’s clear that not everyone has the whole picture, but that’s something for another day. Right now, the disappointment is about this match and how it went. But at the same time, I have a positive feeling about the club team part that is coming."
"I can’t control everything that is said or written. But I’m glad I became a Liverpool player. That’s what I wanted and I’m happy about that.
“There is a lot to discuss, and it can be discussed for a long time. It has been educational, and I’m happy with the final result. I’m happy and proud to be a Liverpool player. I don’t want to go into details or talk about that situation too much. It is a closed chapter, but I have never had any problems.”
The truth, well, Isak's truth, will come out one day
On some level, we can understand Isak's desire not to go into details, especially while he's still got plenty of his playing career ahead of him, but he's not making his situation any easier by hinting at things and not elaborating.
One day, the truth will come out; it's just a case of whether anyone cares by that point.
At least his mardy bum isn't our problem any more. Good luck to Liverpool in two years time when Real Madrid come knocking.
