Newcastle United were so good against Everton that we knew Alan Shearer would have more than one Mag in his Premier League Team of the Week.

We also knew that Malick Thiaw would be one of them, given the German centre-back scored two goals in the 4-1 win. He is also nominated for Player of the Week, which you can vote for here.

The question was always, who else would join him in the team of the week? Nick Woltemade was involved in a lot of Newcastle's attacking play and scored a sublime chip over Jordan Pickford.

Lewis Miley scored one and assisted one in what was one of his best performances in a Toon shirt. But neither Big Nick or Lil Lew made it into Shearer's picks.

Eddie Howe picked Malick Thiaw's partner to join him in the Team of the Week

Joining Malick Thiaw was his defensive partner, Dan Burn, who Alan Shearer said was 'excellent' alongside Thiaw.

Malick Thiaw (Newcastle)
"Thiaw epitomised everything Newcastle did well at Everton. Defended superbly and scored his first two goals for the club, including the fastest Premier League goal this season after just 52 seconds!"
Dan Burn (Newcastle)
"Excellent performance from the centre-back, who returned to the starting XI and formed a dominant partnership with Thiaw."

We expect to see Dan Burn and Malick Thiaw together again on Tuesday night

With Sven Botman having a scan on his back, the Thiaw and Burn partnership may be the one that Eddie Howe sticks with for the foreseeable future.

Fingers crossed that the superb Lewis Hall, who, alongside Tino Livramento, were a couple of the other contenders for the Team of the Week, can stay fit.

That back four on Saturday looked solid, and they seemed to have an extra level of confidence with Aaron Ramsdale behind them. That might have just been us seeing what we wanted to see, but it certainly felt like the case.
