So many Newcastle United fans were shouting at their TV on Sunday night for Gareth Southgate to make the change to bring on Anthony Gordon.

Phil Foden was completely ineffectual down England's left and found it hard to link up with Newcastle's right-back Kieran Trippier, who Southgate had deployed at left-back in the absence of Luke Shaw.

Shaw still isn't training with the England side so it's likely that Trippier will once again fill that role, which means Southgate must change things up to get the creativity back down that left wing.

Alan Shearer had backed Gordon to start in the first game, and has now doubled down on that call after seeing how much the side struggled on Sunday.

Alan Shearer wants to see Anthony Gordon in from the start on Thursday

However, Shearer doesn't think that Southgate should drop Foden and instead move him to a more central role, which is what so many people were saying at the weekend.

Without mentioning him, by process of elimination, Shearer, talking on the BBC, feels that Trent Alexander-Arnold should be sacrificed to make way for Newcastle's pacey winger.

“I would go back to the team that I thought may have started in terms of playing [Anthony] Gordon on the left-hand side and I perhaps would have played [Jude] Bellingham alongside [Declan] Rice and then had [Phil] Foden in the 10 role. Keep Rice very much in that six position, yeah. Absolutely, that’s what I would have done.

“Trippier is a really, really good full-back. But having a right-footed player at left-back, when he’s receiving the ball, he’s receiving the ball facing the goalkeeper rather than facing out to the left-hand side. So I don’t think that actually helped Foden in that position either.”

England could have an unstoppable lineup if Southgate was brave

With Gordon, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka as the three forwards with Phil Foden in support with Jude Bellingham behind and Declan Rice shoring things up, that would be such a force for Denmark to contend with.

However, we feel that's probably a bit too attacking, maybe too adventurous for Mr Southgate.

We have no idea how England will line up tomorrow at 5pm, but we'd be amazed if it looks anything like how Alan Shearer says it should be. We wonder if Gordon will even get on the pitch at all this time.
