There's no doubt about it, Newcastle United are struggling right now. You can be the happiest of happy clappers and rival Eddie Howe for the Mr Positive 2026 award, but you can't deny that things are rough right now.

Whether or not you fall on the side of "Howe In" or "Howe Out" is entirely up to you. Everyone has their own opinions, and we should all be able to express those opinions without fear of being hauled over the coals.

We've seen far too much of that over the last week when fans on either side of the aisle are going out of their way to repost an opposing opinion and create an online pile-on to make themselves feel superior.

At the end of the day, we're all supposed to be united under the Newcastle United umbrella. Let's start to act like it. Respect each other's opinions, hold discussions about them, sure, but stop trying to make heroes and villains. Anyway, that was pretty off topic. Back to what we're here for...

Alan Shearer urges caution to those chanting for the end of the Eddie Howe era

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have been discussing the mounting pressure on Eddie Howe on The Rest Is Football's latest episode, and Shearer has told fans to be careful what they wish for.

"There's a lot of discussion and you should never listen to it online but I'm without a doubt stick with Eddie. Just be careful what you wish for.

"This guy has given us the best day of our life in terms of winning a trophy, my life anyway. He's a brilliant coach and there's no doubt that he's having a tough time at this moment in time, his first real test but that doesn't mean you get rid of someone when they're having a bit of a tough time - for the first time.

"So for me, stick with him. We try and stick together as a football club because there's a lot of noise and that's the way you get better and improve."

Alan Shearer is wise like an owl

After my own Eddie Howe wobble last week, I fully agree with Shearer here. I had a moment after Manchester City when emotions were high, where I wanted to change. But that takes me back to my rant - just because someone says something in the heat of the moment, it may not reflect how they really feel. We all get hyperbolic when emotions are high and crucifying someone online for that is pathetic.

Are we clipping this moment from Alan Shearer to create a pile-on of one of the most beloved players ever to play for our club just for having the gall to voice his opinion?

There's plenty of room for discussion on the topic, but let's just be civil about it, eh?
