AC Milan and Newcastle United recently held talks over potential summer business after striking up a good relationship last summer during the move of Sandro Tonali.
Despite what happened shortly after Tonali's arrival, the two clubs have managed to maintain a strong working relationship and even met last month to discuss potential summer transfers.
One player that Newcastle have their eye on is German defender Malick Thiaw.
The 22-year-old his apparently high on Newcastle's wish list although Milan are keen to retain his services.
A report by Calciomercato in Italy has suggested that despite Milan being keen to keep hold of Thiaw, a bid of around £34million could be enough to get them to change their mind.
However, that report also goes on to say that although Newcastle are in the mix, Thiaw's agent is set to meet other interested Premier League clubs to discuss a potential switch.
Eddie Howe has seen a fair few players slip through his grasp already this summer so he'll be hoping that something can be worked out for Thiaw.
A boost to Newcastle's hopes arrived this morning as Paul Mitchell was announced as the club's new Sporting Director after a lengthy recruitment campaign.
With Mitchell now taking up the role, we expect things will pick up when it comes to transfers and if he can get involved with the Thiaw negotiations, that could move things on much more quickly.
After all the negativity over the weekend, having something like this come out of it has lifted the mood and we can start looking forward again.
