Aaron Ramsdale announced as Newcastle United player as goalkeeper names Eddie Howe as huge influence
Newcastle United have made their second signing of the summer as the club formally announced the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale on loan.
The 27-year-old arrives on loan from Southampton to make it the second time he has signed for Eddie Howe after the Toon boss previously signed a young Ramsdale for Bournemouth in 2017.
Newcastle have an option to buy Ramsdale at the end of the season, but aren't obligated to do so.
After Anthony Elanga, Ramsdale becomes Newcastle's second first-team signing of the summer, and will wear the number 32 this season.
Aaron Ramsdale is excited to get going at St James' Park
Speaking to NUFC TV, Ramsdale said that Eddie Howe had been a huge influence on his career, and he was the driving force behind the decision to join.
"It's great to be here. I've always loved coming here and I've seen how passionate and loud the fans can be. I've always loved playing here at St James' Park - I've not always had the greatest of results but, when the fans get behind you, it's some place.
"Coming to the stadium and seeing it empty today, it's quite surreal to think that this is going to be home for the foreseeable future. I've got the kit on, it’s got the nice Champions League badge on the sleeve and I'm delighted to be here.
"Working with the manager and his coaching staff again was a big draw for me. They've already had a great influence on my career and the gaffer turned me from a man into a professional footballer at Bournemouth. He really showed me the ropes so the manager and his coaching staff were a huge selling point for me to come here."
Two down, three to go
Newcastle now have two of the four positions they were looking to fill sorted, now we need a new centre back and a new striker, or as it transpires now, two new strikers.
Benjamin Sesko is finally looking promising, while Yoane Wissa is still doing all he can to force his move away from Brentford.
We've got nothing solid on the defender front yet, but we are sure something will happen in time. We could actually end the summer quite happy after all of our tears and tantrums.
