Last year Newcastle United were weighing up a deal for highly-rated Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners but ultimately backed out over Financial Fair Play fears.
There it is again, that darn FFP. The thing that's ruining Newcastle's plans for domination, and it was the big reason why Newcastle ultimately didn't pursue a January move for Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners who is tearing up Serie A with Atalanta.
It was believed that the time that a deal of around £55million would have been enough to bring the midfielder to the Premier League, but as we know, Newcastle didn't even feel they had the FFP headroom to even loan Kalvin Phillips - which turned out to be a blessing.
Liverpool are also said to be keen on the 26-year-old which could start off a bidding war this summer now that the player has basically issued come and get me plea to the Premier League.
EuroFoot have posted on X quoting Koopmeiners as saying he's told Atalanta he wants to move in the summer and that he has his eye on England.
"I told Atalanta that I want to move next summer."
"My girlfriend and I are having a lot of fun in Italy, but for some clubs in the Premier League I will even put up with the rain."
If it's rain you want, Teun, we've got plenty of it, mate. Do you like bridges? We have bridges too.
The versatile midfielder was initially eyed as a replacement for Sandro Tonali after he was slapped with his 10-month ban, but given that Koopmeiners can play that number six role, he's still a possible target for Newcastle in the summer.
This season in Serie A he has played 25 games, scored 10 goals and made three assists which puts his figures way higher than most of our midfield could even dream of.
Our midfield is rather overloaded as it stands, injuries aside, but there are a couple of players who could be sold to make way for Koopmeiners coming in.
