Mid-season international friendlies are always a worrying time for fans with their club's top players away taking part in what are often pointless matches in the middle of their club season.
Newcastle United fans had a heart-stopping moment last night as Italy international Sandro Tonali had to receive on-field treatment for a knock.
After missing out on the cool. calm talents of Tonali for 10 months due to a ban, having our £55 million star pick up an injury in a Nations League game would have been the ultimate insult.
Fortunately Tonali was able to shake off the knock and was an important figure in Italy's convincing win over Israel.
The 4-1 win sent Italy a point clear in their Nations League group and they have Sandro Tonali to thank for getting the ball rolling last night.
It was the Newcastle man who was fouled in the box winning a 41st minute penalty which was duly converted by Mateo Retegui.
Giovanni Di Lorenzo scored two goals, one either side of a Davide Frattesi finish to complete the scoring for Italy with Isreal clawing one back earlier to make it 2-1.
It looks as though Newcastle are going to receive all of their European stars back in one piece after this break, we just need Miguel Almiron and Bruno Guimaraes to come away unscathed and we can put this latest international break behind us ahead of yet another one next month.
Why can't we just have unbroken Premier League football? In their desperate attempt to legitimise the international breaks they've made everything worse.
Sorry to go all "Angry man yells at cloud" but I just loathe these international breaks.
