Newcastle United will be on the prowl for a new striker in the summer after being caught lacking several times this season.
Our two main forwards, Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson have been playing tag with injuries, sometimes even forgetting whose turn it was so both were unavailable. With no third option, it has left Eddie Howe to get creative.
This absolutely can not happen again next season and while we heavily suspect that Callum Wilson may be sold on in the summer, Newcastle simply must start next season with three strikers, which means we may have to sign two forwards this in the next transfer window.
The Magpies already have their eye on one target, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and it was believed that the club were weighing up a £43million move in January but due to FFP constraints, opted against it.
Newcastle's interest in Sesko predates the January window with the 20-year-old Slovenian a target last summer too before he switched Red Bull flavours from Salzburg to Leipzig.
Sesko has had to be patient since moving to Germany with minutes harder to come by for the young striker. He has featured 29 times in all competitions, bagging 10 goals, but he's only completed a full 90 minutes on three occasions.
Despite that, Sesko recently told Bild (via The Chronicle) that he is happy at Leipzig and despite interest from elsewhere, he's happy to stay for a long time.
"I want to spend a lot of time here [at RB Leipzig] because the club suits me well. We’ll see how many years it will be in total."
That will certainly put a dampener on Newcastle's hopes, but it shouldn't write us off entirely. Players can easily be swayed by promises of better things and if Sesko were to move to Newcastle there's a potential for him to partner with Alexander Isak and become the main focal point of the attack.
He may only be 20 but he's shown time and time again that he's got the quality. He would be a perfect signing for Newcastle and despite his young age he is already first-team ready which means he could be the main striker purchase while we bring in another, more raw youngster as the back up for him and Isak.
