Newcastle United are seriously starting to identify Marc Guehi alternatives in case Crystal Palace don't ratify the deal before the weekend.
There have been plenty of names floated about as alternatives already, but last night a familiar name entered the frame.
Chelsea's £39 million flop Axel Disasi who Newcastle chased last summer before, like so many others, the Frenchman opted to join Chelsea over the Magpies.
Now it looks like Newcastle could turn to Disasi to rescue him from his Chelsea nightmare.
The Athletic's David Ornstein has named Axel Disasi as one of the defenders Newcastle could make a play for should the Marc Guehi deal fall apart.
Disasi made 44 appearances for Chelsea last season but doesn't appear to be part of Enzo Maresca's plans.
The 26-year-old came in for a tonne of criticisim last season from pundits, with Tim Sherwood calling him "one of Chelsea's worst players".
That's hardly a glowing reference, and seeing how Disasi struggled last season, we can see why Maresca is so keen to offload him.
If what Ornstein is saying is true then clearly our recruitment team still see something in him, and it wouldn't be the first time we've seen Eddie Howe rescue somebody's Premier League career.
Disasi moved to Chelsea from Monaco so he is someone that Paul Mitchell will know well and he will have seen him at his best.
However, it does seem like a massive step down from Marc Guehi and almost reeks of desperation.
