Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron is set to return to the club following his national team's elimination from the Copa America.

The 30-year-old featured in all three of Paraguay's group games in the competition, losing all three and finishing bottom of the group.

They lost their opening game 2-1 to Columbia, where Miggy played 59 minutes before being subbed off.

He then featured in a 4-1 loss to a Brazil side that featured fellow Toon teammate Bruno Guimaraes who will face Uraguay in the next round.

Last night with their exit confirmed, Almiron was taken off at half-time after his side went 2-0 down and he picked up a yellow card.

He will now return to the North East with his Newcastle future still up in the air.

Could Miguel Almiron leave Newcastle United this summer?

With the 30-year-old's contract up at the end of next season, this summer is the last chance to get a good fee for Almiron.

Reports yesterday confirmed that an unnamed club in the Saudi Pro-League were in talks with the Magpies over a move for Almiron, talks are said to be progressing but the club in question is still yet to be revealed.

It was rumoured that Steven Gerrard managed Al-Ettifaq were the club looking to sign the winger but this has since been debunked.

Almiron's season has been nothing short of disappointing after a fantastic 2022/23 campaign.

The winger scored just three goals in the Premier League despite making 33 appearances.

His poor form has also carried into his national duties where he has failed to score in a competitive game for over two years.

Bruno Guimaraes' Brazil through to the next round of the Copa America

The 26-year-old Brazilian international featured in all three of his country's group games including a full 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Costa Rica.

72 minutes in their convincing win against Paraguay and 86 minutes in a less convincing 1-1 draw against Columbia confirmed Brazil as runners-up in their group.

Guimaraes is in line to start against Uraguay in what looks to be a tough fixture given their form.

Bruno's immediate Newcastle future has also been in question recently, with Manchester City and Paris St Germain both thought to be admirers of him.
