£26m Newcastle target to meet club this week to discuss future as Magpies one of four clubs keen

Things appear to be progressing well for Newcastle United in terms of their move for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

That leaves the Magpies with the task of finding the right man to come in and take over that right-wing role that the club and fans are desperate to see filled by someone who isn't Miguel Almiron.

There has been no shortage of names linked to the Magpies but there has been a lack of movement by the club.

However, reports from Italy are saying that Newcastle 'cannot be underestimated' in the race for Argentina winger Nicolas Gonzalez.

Newcastle face tough competition for Nico Gonzalez

Gonzalez is far from a new name in the frame, but this morning has seen a lot of talk about the Copa America winner's future.

Quotidiano Sportivo in Italy have claimed that Newcastle are one of four clubs hoping for some positive news coming out of Fiorentina this week with Gonzalez's representatives set to meet with the club to discuss his exit.

It's believed that Fiorentina would ask €30 million (£26 million) for his services with Atletico Madrid, Atalanta and Juventus also keen.

Gonzalez certainly looks the part

The 26-year-old certainly looks like he has the ability to lift Newcastle up another level, more so than Miggy, at least.

For under £30 million he could prove to be a bargain, especially as it's looking like Marc Guehi is going to cost a pretty penny.

Whoever it is that comes in to take this spot, they will very likely be the last incoming deal this summer, but Newcastle still have work to be done moving players on as well.
