Newcastle United could have every right to feel invincible after ending Liverpool's winning streak on Wednesday night, albeit with a draw.

In what used to be a classic fixture and one always picked for live broadcast, Newcastle and Liverpool rolled back the years and put on a ding-dong battle for the ages with a classic end-to-end performance which saw the two sides share six goals.

Next up for the Magpies is a trip to Brentford where the Bees hold the distinction of being the best-performing home side in the Premier League so far.

So it's not going to be smooth sailing for Eddie Howe's men that's for sure, but they should be buoyed by their efforts from Wednesday night.

Paul Merson is expecting a goal-fest at the G-Tech Community Stadium

While Paul Merson has acknowledged the Liverpool game in his score prediction for Sportskeeda, he's still reluctant to give the Magpies three points.

"Brentford are a completely different team at home. Their home record is bordering on unbelievable, but the away record is bordering on atrocious! We saw that against Aston Villa, didn't we? Brentford were blown away in that 3-1 defeat.

"I thought Newcastle were brilliant in their draw with Liverpool. They caused some serious problems to Liverpool and will take a lot of confidence from that result. I have a strong feeling that this game will be a goal-fest. Brentford will score at home and I also expect Newcastle to have a go at this game.

"This could well be one of the most entertaining matches of the weekend with more than one goal at both ends. I doubt either of these teams can go one better and get three points though.

"Prediction: Brentford 2-2 Newcastle United"

Newcastle will be hoping to use the Liverpool game as a jumping off point

Merson is predicting an entertaining game, but a share of the spoils again which wouldn't be the end of the world for Newcastle. One point is better than zero.

However, after that performance against table-toppers Liverpool, we should be using that as a springboard to push on and start to put a run of wins together.

There's also the psychological battle with Brentford as we meet the Bees again on the 18th in the Carabao Cup at St James' Park.
