Report: Newcastle now want 'elite' striker with eye-watering pace who Sven Botman knows well

Newcastle United have now added their name to the list of admirers of Lille's rapid forward Jonathan David.

CaughtOffside claim that Newcastle are now looking at taking the Lille striker away from France. Rated at around £51million, the Canadian striker has impressed at Lille with his goal-scoring prowess in recent seasons, although he has struggled to get going this season.

His slow start hasn't put off any of his admirers with the likes of Tottenham and AC Milan keen on the 23-year-old.

Jonathan David's goals-per-game record last season was impressive

Jonathan David managed 26 goals and four assists in 40 appearances last season but so far this term has bagged just seven goals in 23 outings.

Form is temporary and class is permanent, however, and Jonathan David wasn't earmarked to be 'elite' for nothing.

Newcastle could definitely do with a third striker after losing both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson at the same time this season exposed the lack of depth we have in that position.

Have a word, Sven

Jonathan David would be an amazing signing. His blistering pace and ability to run at defenders would be a huge asset.

Hopefully, his former Lille teammate, Sven Botman could put in a word and sing the praises of the club, the fans and the city. Maybe show him a few pictures of the odd bridge or two.

The price tag of £51million might look high, but given his age and his talent, it's a bargain. We hope there's some truth in this one.
