Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali is eyeing a move away from Tyneside in favour of a return to AC Milan, reports suggest.

The 24-year-old made the move to Newcastle last season for £55million and made an instant impact, scoring just six minutes into his Premier League debut against Aston Villa.

However, in October Tonali received a 10-month suspension for breaching betting rules but will be available at the end of August.

During his time away, Tonali has quietly attended gambling addiction courses and has been supported by the club to ensure he has all the help he needs during his recovery.

Tonali to leave Newcastle?

Since joining, fans of other clubs have insisted that Tonali wasn't happy at the club and didn't want to be there.

Now, according to Milan journalist Allesandro Schiavone, the Italian international is eyeing a return to his former club in 2028, four years from now.

Tonali made 130 appearances for AC after joining from Brescia in 2020 where he won two player of the year awards.

He was part of the Milan side that won the Serie A title in the 2021/22 season.

Newcastle have seen Tonali through 'thick and thin'

Tonali's ban was a shock to Newcastle fans, the marquee signing who would transform Newcastle's midfield and work alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

Sadly that hasn't been the case, but with Tonali returning soon fans should see the true potential of that midfield.

Schiavone said he wants to repay the faith Newcastle put in him before leaving for Milan.

The club has stood by him through 'thick and especially thin' but a return to his home nation takes priority.

Schiavone has a history with the Magpies, he famously said that Sven Botman 'loathes' the idea of playing for Newcastle and only wants to join Milan. I think we all know how that turned out.
