Newcastle United have put out a brief statement confirming that Kieran Trippier has returned home from England duty early.

The Magpies' vice-captain has been away with England during this international break and played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 win over Malta on Friday night.

England now face North Macedonia on Monday but will be without Kieran Trippier for that game.

It looks like Trippier will get the rest he needs

Thankfully, Tripps hasn't left the camp due to injury, which is a positive as far as Newcastle are concerned.

With a match against Chelsea coming up at the weekend and the state of the squad as it is, we are relieved it's not injury-related.

The statement put out on Newcastle United's official site didn't give anything away.

Kieran Trippier has withdrawn from the England camp due to personal matters

"Newcastle United can confirm that Kieran Trippier has returned home from the England squad due to a personal matter.

"Kieran played 90 minutes as the Three Lions defeated Malta 2-0 in a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier at Wembley on Friday but will miss Monday's trip to North Macedonia."

We of course hope it is nothing too serious and that he and his family are all okay.

This does now mean that Tripps will get a week's rest, provided his personal matters are all dealt with in time for him to face Chelsea on Saturday. Fingers crossed.

Tripps had looked a bit off his game lately, whether this matter is anything to do with that we don't know, but we suspect he's just fatigued. He's been an almost ever-present for Newcastle this season and as a result, must be knackered.
