This morning saw AFC Wimbledon's Carabao Cup date with Newcastle United postponed after flooding caused major pitch damage at Plough Lane.

The fixture was originally set to be played tomorrow night - Tuesday 24th September at 7:45pm but following the damage to the pitch the decision was taken to postpone the game.

Since then both clubs have been working with the EFL to find a solution to play the fixture rather than seeing Newcastle handed a bye into the next round which would have happened if the game could not be rearranged.

Thankfully this afternoon a compromise has been reached and the fixture now has a new date as well as a new venue.

St James' Park will now host the fixture a week later than scheduled

The game will now be played at St James' Park on Tuesday 1st October as has been confirmed by the club via X.

Kick-off will be 7:45pm and while nothing has been confirmed at time of writing, we assume that the game will be broadcast live as it was originally planned to be.

The club has confirmed that refunds for those who had tickets for the original fixture will be processed tomorrow (Tuesday).

You'll need to be on the ball to grab tickets for the game

Obviously with just a week to buy tickets for the rearranged fixture, the on-sale periods for tickets will be much shorter, so you'll need to act fast to grab your ticket.

Our big question is, does this now technically count as a home tie or are we still entitled to whinge about always being drawn as the away side should it happen again?

In all seriousness, we're just glad that the game has been rearranged and we hope that Newcastle share the ticketing revenue with Wimbledon who will now miss out on that, and frankly, could use that money to repair their pitch which resembles the ninth hole at St Andrews right now.
