Crystal Palace have turned down a third offer from Newcastle United for defender Marc Guehi, but the deal isn't dead yet.

It felt inevitable after Palace co-owner Steve Parish's comments on Sky Sports News earlier this week.

Parish referred to Guehi as a "superstar" and said that if Newcastle wanted him then they would need to pay "superstar money" for him.

He also said that nobody had gotten to his valuation yet, that was after the third bid had been placed.

The Magpies' third offer was thought to be in the region of £60million, around £5m away from what the Eagles are looking for.

Newcastle United's third Marc Guehi bid rejected

Keith Downie of Sky Sports has officially confirmed that Crystal Palace turned down Newcastle's offer.

He mentions Parish's quotes and confirms the bid was rejected in the last 24 hours.

Downie does confirm that it's not the end of the deal, however, Toon sporting director Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe are working hard to find a find a solution.

As it stands the only solution seems to be to just pay much closer towards the valuation of Guehi.

For now, Guehi remains a Crystal Palace player.

Newcastle United have backup options should they miss out on Marc Guehi

On Sky Sports News, Downie confirmed that the Magpies are at a stage where they are considering alternatives who could "perform the role they wanted Guehi to do".

The deal is still alive and both teams are still "at the table" but it feels like time is running out for a deal to be made as we approach the new season.

As it stands, no other names have been made public but Howe and Mitchell are sure to be nearing a point where alternatives will be contacted.
