We're not sure if you can remember this, but Newcastle United have a player called Matt Targett who signed from Aston Villa.

Matt Targett was part of the miracle side that avoided relegation thanks to Eddie Howe's amazing turnaround of the club. The left-back signed from Aston Villa on loan and impressed so much that he earned himself a permanent move in the off-season.

Newcastle initially paid £3million for the loan deal and then a further £12million to make the deal permanent, and since becoming a full-time member of the squad, Targett has spent more time on the treatment table than the pitch.

There are times that I genuinely forget he's still at the club but then every so often he'll turn up on the bench for a couple of games and then disappear again.

Targett has made just seven appearances in all competitions this season racking up a grand total of 192 minutes. Last season he managed 18 outings for a total of 737 minutes.

A quick look on Transfermarkt shows that a hamstring injury has been accredited to his latest run of absences until he returned to sit on the bench against Chelsea and then ever since he's been noted simply as "not in squad".

Now, in the club's video - A Day in the Life of Joelinton - we see Targett wandering the halls of Newcastle's training complex wearing a protective boot on his right leg.

Pick a body part, any body part

We're by no means medical professionals, but a knee-high protective boot doesn't sound like the normal treatment for a hamstring injury.

Even Premier injuries don't know what to class it as anymore and have just gone with "Calf/Shin/Heel injury".

Targett was brilliant in the second half of that season when he was here on loan, but lately he's more of a resource drain than Mark Gillespie. If he's not moved on in the summer we'll be astonished.
