It now feels as if it's make or break for the Marc Guehi transfer from Crystal Palace to Newcastle United.

After Crystal Palace rejected what many believed to be the third and final bid from Newcastle, the Magpies have reportedly gone in again with a bid that is "closer" to Palace's valuation.

The Chronicle claims that the bid is a package worth £65 million which is the valuation Palace have set for Guehi, however, Palace will not receive the whole fee unless conditions are met and that may be what collapses the deal.

After a week of consideration, talks and posturing in the media, you'd like to think that this bid is the one that gets the deal over the line. After all the talking, surely the two clubs have reached a point where each side knows exactly where the other stands and they've stopped playing games.

Eddie Howe says the club will walk away from any unfair deal

Eddie Howe spoke to the media this morning for his first Premier League pre-game presser of the season and he spoke about the club not being afraid to walk away from a deal if they feel the other club is taking the mick.

"We have done [walked away] many times especially early on when there was very much a Newcastle tax. When we would turn up the price would double.

Many times we would not go down that road where we are overpaying for players. I think it has changed slightly because people have seen our dynamic and we aren't going to pay silly fees for players."

Confidence is high that the deal will get done

Howe reiterated that point later in the briefing when he was asked more directly about Marc Guehi.

It does feel, though, that this has dragged on long enough for both clubs now and the deal is there to be done. If it wasn't, you'd imagine that the line would have been drawn a while ago and one side would have walked away.

It could still go down to the wire, but we're confident Marc Guehi will be a Newcastle player before the end of August.
