Rather unsurprisingly there were no Newcastle United players chosen for Troy Deeney's Team of the Week this week.

The Magpies' performance was so poor that if there was such thing as a worst team of the week, we may have had a couple of representatives in that one.

Troy Deeney once again made the selections for the BBC and while, as we said, there were no Newcastle players in there, there was one that has been linked with the Magpies very recently.

18-year-old Southampton winger Tyler Dibley was recently revealed as being a player high on Newcastle's wish list.

Troy Deeney is very impressed with Tyler Dibling

Dibling scored his first goal of the season against Ipswich at the weekend and Deeney couldn't stop purring about the youngster after naming him in his Team of the Week.

"Tyler Dibling (Southampton): He is one player everybody needs to look forward to because he is the business. He might not still be at Southampton in January. This 18-year-old can play anywhere in midfield - a sitter, a 10, an eight, you name it he's got it in the bag. He was super-confident and so comfortable. Every now and then you see a player who looks like they walk through games, he is like that. He scored his first goal as well, fair play to him."

Deeney makes the idea of making a move for Dibling an absolute no-brainer.

Tyler Dibling is like a boomerang who keeps returning to Southampton

One issue Newcastle could face if they were to sign Dibling is that he's already left Southampton twice and returned. One time he even joined Chelsea but lasted only two months after failing to settle.

It might be wise for Newcastle to wait until next summer before making a move in order to give him time to show what he can do at the top level, and also more time to mature which should help him to relocate if Newcastle were to bid.

There's no doubt he has the hallmarks of a quality player, and surely Newcastle and Eddie Howe could certainly help him to develop into a huge star, but whether he'd leave the Saints again is another story.
