As a lifelong Newcastle United supporter, Alan Shearer moving home to represent his boyhood club as, at the time, the World's most expensive player will have been a dream come true for the sheet-metal worker's son from Gosforth.

Not only did Alan Shearer represent Newcastle, he did so by breaking many club records and still remains the Premier League's all-time leading goal scorer.

Shearer famously turned down Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United to join Newcastle, something that the Man United fans still haven't got over all these years later.

Given that Shearer is always likely to receive plenty of stick when he rocks up at Old Trafford, the former England number 9 doesn't really hold a soft spot for the Red Devils, shall we say?

Would Shearer rather play for Sunderland or Man United?

Shearer's aversion to Sunderland is baked in from being a Geordie, but again, the Mackems have been less than kind to Big Al over the years, so they run a close game with Man United as his most disliked clubs.

Shearer has made his feelings known about Sunderland plenty of times on The Rest Is Football podcast, often with hilarious outcomes, but now he's faced the ultimate question.

Who would you rather sign for, Sunderland or Manchester United?

Shearer gave the perfect answer to the horrendous question

Shearer's response was pure gold, as usual, and had Gary Lineker and Micah Richards in stitches.

"Neither. I'd take up golf."

Well said, Alan. Bloody well said, sir.
