Thomas Tuchel has taken over as England boss following Gareth Southgate's resignation in the summer and a new report has claimed this could directly impact Newcastle United's January transfer plans.

Eddie Howe had long been linked with the England role before Thomas Tuchel was appointed, and while it was a relief for Newcastle to see an end to that speculation, it's now being claimed that the Magpies could benefit from the appointment in other ways.

As far as putting two and two together and getting anything other than four, this claim is right up there with some of the more outlandish answers, but we'll look at it anyway.

The one saga that dragged on almost as long as the Eddie Howe for England rumours this year was of course Newcastle's pursuit of Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

Will Newcastle go in for Marc Guehi again in January?

Marc Guehi was Newcastle's priority transfer target after missing out on his Palace teammate, Michael Olise, with the saga going all the way to deadline day before falling apart.

Now it's up for debate whether or not Newcastle will try again for Guehi in January. It's believed that if Newcastle were to try again they would go in with bids well below the £70 million they were prepared to pay in the summer as Guehi's contract ticks down.

Give Me Sport have also now claimed that the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as England boss is 'great news' for Newcastle as it solidifies Howe's status at the club and means that he will influence Paul Mitchell in the transfer market.

Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell were already working on January targets

There was no real danger of Eddie Howe leaving, and he and Mitchell are already working on things together. The Tuchel appointment will not have swayed them in any way.

As for Marc Guehi, that still feels like a coin-toss at this point as to whether or not Newcastle will bid for him again.

After chasing him for so long in the summer it's likely they will make an approach, but we doubt we'll be sticking around if negotiations start to go the same way as they did before. Paul Mitchell is ensuring that he has more targets to approach, and they will be discussed with Eddie Howe as well, so he's unlikely to stick Howe with a player he doesn't want.
