Newcastle United fans don't have too long to wait before they can get their hands on new club merchandise.
The club's partnership with Castore is fast coming to an end and as a result of that, the retail side of the club's business will revert back to being controlled by the club itself rather than being operated by an outside company, which is currently Castore.
As we know, Adidas will be taking over the kit manufacturing side of things next season with new kits said to be available to buy early next month, however, we may not have to wait quite that long to get our hands on other Newcastle United/Adidas merchandise.
The club shop under the Gallowgate End will be closed down at the end of this month for work to begin on a huge refit, while a temporary shop will open across the road next to The Strawberry while the work is carried out.
This is all set to happen this month, on 29th May which is also the same date that Newcastle United will launch their new online merchandise store. A statement from the club was printed in The Chronicle.
"We have commenced work to move its retail operations in-house for the first time in more than a decade with the construction and imminent installation of a temporary club store and new e-commerce website.
"Following initial groundworks in April and May, the first of five modular ‘Rapid Retail’ units began to arrive at St. James’ Park on Wednesday to form a larger temporary store that will serve fans this summer.
"Meanwhile, the club is currently building a new online retail platform - shop.newcastleunited.com –that will go live on 29th May, supporting the sale of official merchandise to supporters around the world.
"For visitors to St. James’ Park, the temporary store will be situated between The Strawberry pub and the St. James’ STACK presented by Sela, and will be operated by Newcastle United’s new in-house retail team. It will also officially open on 29th May to coincide with the closure of the existing stadium store, which is currently operated by Castore, and in time for England men’s and women’ international matches."
That suggests that the current agreement with Castore will terminate at the end of the season and the club will waste no time taking control of the retail side of the business and putting up Adidas and other official merchandise up for sale.
There's a lot of excitement about the new kits, but the partnership with Adidas will deliver so much more, including training gear and other Newcastle United-related merchandise.
We honestly can't wait to see what's going to be on offer as we cry because we can't afford to but literally everything.
