You won't see many Newcastle United staff at Sunderland's Stadium of Light, unless you were there for our recent 0-3 victory, of course...

Toon scout Mick Tait was spotted at the recent Sunderland vs. Queens Park Rangers clash in the Championship this weekend, with Tait keeping an eye on a 'potential bargain' signing.

We know Steve Nickson, the club's Head of Recruitment was recently spotted watching Everton, but this time, our attentions are on a more local prospect.

Step up Chris Rigg, the 16-year-old Sunderland prospect, who is yet to agree a professional contract with the club. Coming on with 30 minutes to play, Rigg stepped onto the pitch to record his 13th appearance of the season.

Is Chris Rigg Toon-bound this summer?

Sunderland had hoped Rigg would sign a professional deal on his 17th birthday in June, however, interest in the local lad might have turned his head.

While Rigg comes from a family of Newcastle fans, interest in him reaches far beyond just the Magpies. Manchester City and Liverpool have reportedly been keeping tabs on the youngster.

Rigg signed a two-year scholarship deal back in the summer, with stories suggesting he rejected a similar deal from Newcastle. However, it was reported to be seen as more of a career move for Rigg, as he was looking to get more first-team minutes this season.

While Rigg has indeed featured numerous times for Sunderland this season—14 in total—he has only started one match, clocking up just 324 minutes in The Championship.

With the young midfielder being able to sign for a nominal compensation in the summer, it leaves him (and his family) with a big call to make in just a few months.
