Sky Sport Germany has today revealed that Loris Karius has signed a one-year contract extension to stay at Newcastle until at least June 2024.

Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg shared the news on his personal Twitter account, and speculation is now set to commence over the future of Martin Dúbravka.

Karl Darlow is already set to depart, with strong interest from both Bournemouth and Leeds reported recently, but Dúbravka could well join him on the way out of St. James' Park. Mark Gillespie is staying, having signed a one-year contract extension earlier in the summer.

Newcastle carried at least four senior goalkeepers throughout last season. Still, it's unlikely that Eddie Howe will want to do the same in 2023/24, especially with financial fair play such a pressing concern at the moment.

Dúbravka is one of the few members of Howe's squad that could fetch a transfer fee and it would be no surprise to see a move materialise this summer, with the Saudi Pro League a likely destination. Should this happen, it would leave the Newcastle manager with Nick Pope as his first choice, Karius as his backup stopper, and Gillespie as his third choice.
