Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted that they are "as we were" regarding the progress of Joelinton's contract negotiations.
The Brazilian international is out of contract in June 2025 and Howe recently feared that he had played his last game for the club after suffering a season ending thigh injury.
The 27-year-old, who has become a cult hero during his time at the club recently posted on Instagram at St James' Park with the caption "home" but for now there is no good news on the contract front.
Reports earlier in the year said that Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley had taken over negotiations following the exit of director Dan Ashworth.
Amid injuries and transfer speculation, Howe was asked if there was any update on Joelinton's contract situation.
Howe's five word reply surely sent a shiver down the spines of Newcastle fans.
"We are as we were". Howe said.
That's it, time is running out and there is no update. The worry now is that we've seen the last of Big Joe.
Staveley understands the impact Joelinton has on the team, a big Brazilian enforcer who isn't afraid of getting stuck in and winning the ball back for his team.
A versatile player who gives his all for the team.
I believe Staveley will be doing all that she can to ensure he renews his contract, if he needs to be up there with the highest earners then so be it.
