Crystal Palace made light work of Championship side Norwich in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night but it wasn't all good news for the London club.

Oliver Glasner saw one of his centre-backs pick up an injury early on in the game against Norwich which could directly impact Newcastle United.

Palace and Newcastle have been locked in discussions over a record-breaking move for England centre-back Marc Guehi for around a month now and with time running out in the transfer window, hopes were that the deal would be nearing completion.

Reports still suggest that the deal is getting closer, however, The Mirror have a slightly different take in light of last night's incident.

Chadi Riad's game lasted just 10 minutes last night

Third-choice centre-back Chadi Riad started alongside Guehi last night but his game lasted less than 10 minutes when the defender over-stretched and looked to be in a lot of pain.

He was soon subbed off and Newcastle fans' hearts sank as they saw another defender potentially wiped off Glasner's available list.

Having just sold Joachim Andersen to Fulham, Palace are lighter in defence than they'd like to be, although they are close to bringing in a replacement.

Oliver Glasner says the injury may not be as bad as it looked

Thankfully, Glasner said after the game that the injury to Riad may not be as bad as first feared.

"It looks like something happened with the ligaments his knee but we all hope it’s not too serious. It looked like to me that he will at least miss the Chelsea game on Saturday. But he said it doesn’t look so bad."

If it is a ligament injury then Crystal Palace may be forced to re-think letting Guehi leave, so hopefully it's not too bad and our move can still go ahead. Fingers crossed.
