On Monday Newcastle United were said to be about to battle Everton for the signature of one of Leeds United's most promising players.

Leeds United have recently bagged around £40million by selling promising youngster Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur.

Since that deal went through, Leeds moved to assure fans that they will not be looking to sell any more players this summer as they once again look to return to the Premier League after missing out in the play-off final last season.

However, that may be much easier said than done with Liverpool and Newcastle keeping an eye on Crysencio Summerville and the Magpies also looking at Wilfried Gnonto who is also being tracked by Everton.

Leeds could demand their full valuation for Gnonto and Summerville

The Yorkshire Post has once again reiterated Leeds' desire to not sell any more players this summer, but it's highly likely that their resolve will be tested for Summerville and Gnonto.

However, Leeds will feel that they are in a strong position to negotiate big fees for both players after the sale of Archie Gray left them in a stronger financial position.

Both players are valued at around £25million-£30million by Leeds and they could well feel that they can demand that fee for both without having to buckle under pressure of needing money.

Newcastle currently look unlikely to sign either target

Everton are said to be the most likely to push for Gnonto this summer after they almost signed him last year before the 20-year-old made a U-turn and stuck with Leeds.

TeamTalk yesterday claimed that Newcastle had pushed ahead of them in the queue, but reports from elsewhere still claim the Toffees are in the driving seat.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's links to Summerville have quietened down with the expectation being if he does leave Leeds it will be for Liverpool.
