There has been talk that a few players could be returning from injury sooner than expected for Newcastle United.

Harvey Barnes allegedly just missed out on making the bench against Tottenham on Sunday, although since then there's been no real indication that the winger will be available for selection when Newcastle face AC Milan tomorrow night.

The other player who was set for a surprise return was Dan Burn who has been missing for over a month with a spine injury he picked up in the controversial win against Arsenal.

Burn was rumoured to be fit enough that he could make the bench on Wednesday night but at the same time there was talk that he would be on commentary for the game with Radio 5 Live.

Journalist Harry De Cosemo has posted on X that as things stand, Burn is still set to be in the commentary box tomorrow night but could return at the weekend.

Having Dan Burn back from injury opens up more possibilities for Eddie Howe given that he can play left-back and central defence. He can also choose to use Tino Livramento higher up the pitch if needed.

Eddie Howe recently hailed Burn as 'incredible' and will be desperate for the 31-year-old to be fit for selection again.

The fact that Dan Burn wasn't spotted in Tuesday morning's light training session leads us to believe that Harry De Cosemo is more than likely right on this one and we shouldn't expect to see Burn on the teamsheet tomorrow.

Although by that logic it also means we could be missing Anthony Gordon and Sean Longstaff.
