Getting a straight answer out of Eddie Howe is akin to getting blood from a stone at times with the Newcastle United gaffer highly adept at giving answers while saying nothing.

In fairness, even when he does say something, it's hard to believe a word he says, especially when it comes to injuries, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Fans have a habit of over-reacting to things, so the less Howe gives away, the less there is for us to get excited or have meltdowns about. It's a double-edged sword in that regard, but probably for the best.

So it's not really a surprise that Howe was once again pretty coy when asked about his summer transfer plans when speaking to the media recently.

Howe took a moment to praise his outgoing influential duo

It looks like Eddie Howe is in for a busy summer

Howe admitted that there is a plan, but that was about all he gave away as reported in The Chronicle.

"I know the positions and the type of detail of the player we are trying to bring to the club. That is best kept with me.

"For you guys (media) it's a case of we are looking to improve every area of the team. If there's a player we feel that can take the team to a new level we will look at it."

Howe gave praise to Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett who are leaving the club

Howe also took the opportunity to heap more praise on the outbound Paul Dummett and Matt Ritchie.

"It’s easy to judge players by appearances and goals, but the contribution made to the club by Paul and Matt in particular really has been immeasurable over many years. They have had a huge influence on our progress as a team and as a club.

“They have been incredible people and players to work with. Their dedication, professionalism and leadership in the dressing room during my time here has been first class, and they will bring undoubted quality and experience to their next clubs."
