United announce St James' Park will have safe standing from next season

The club has confirmed that rail seating will be installed across two thirds of the away fans' section, with more to follow in selected home areas in 2023.

What we know

  • The new rail seating will be installed this summer, in the front-most two thirds of the visitors' section
  • Licensed standing in stadiums is still awaited so, despite the installation, a 'no standing' policy will remain for now
  • Our understanding is that this area has been chosen as away fans inevitably stand for the duration of matches, regardless of the policy
  • Consultation with Newcastle supporters will follow regarding the addition of rail seating elsewhere in the ground, but the Strawberry Corner is rumoured to be the most likely to follow
