Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Newcastle United: Superb Newcastle swipe Spurs aside!

Our player ratings after an incredible win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Nick Pope - 8

Played his part in running down the clock and made a really important save early on. Gives the defenders so much confidence.

Kieran Trippier - 7

Was outdone by Kane on the goal but made several very important tackles and frequently built play from the back

Fabian Schär - 8

Composed, aggressive, dominated the aerial battle on the right

Sven Botman - 8

Composed, aggressive, dominated the aerial battle on the left

Dan Burn - 8

A good stint, never put a foot wrong against a difficult opponent

Sean Longstaff - 8

Started slowly but grew into it and but in a typical battling performance with effective pressing

Bruno Guimarães - 6

An uncharacteristic performance which lacked his usual precision but he snapped at his opposite number's heels and played his part in a victorious midfield battle. But for two days without sleep, still remarkable...

Joe Willock - 7

Always a threat picking up the ball from deep with his dribbling ability

Miguel Almirón - 9

Just a constant nuisance and took his goal incredibly well

Joelinton - 8

Brilliant today; slotted into that wing role like a hand in a glove and made some tremendous defensive contributions

Callum Wilson - 9

Maybe the frontman's best performance of the season; he held the line tremendously, took his goal with exceptional composure and got in the face of the Spurs' backline all game long

Subs - 8

Jacob Murphy joined the press well, Chris Wood won an important free-kick which took the pressure off, Jonjo Shelvey got a foot in.

Bruno interview with Sky Sports:

Some amazing days for me, to become father for the first time was incredible, two days without sleep.
I wanted to be with the guys; these guys make me happy and proud.
We deserved it today.
Difficult days but I think was one of the best days of my life and I'm very happy and proud. All the things in my life are like a dream. I don't have words. It's amazing what is happening in my life.
I would say thanks to my family.
Matteo! Matteo!
Wilson is a big player. Incredible goal, I love it, I love it.

Wilson interview with Sky Sports:

Bruno is an unbelievable character, player, so happy for him to become a father - it's a special thing. We've topped it off with a nice win for his family.
Credit to the team and how we've been playing and the manager, how he sets us up.
Last season was tough, we hadn't even won by this point, but we're keeping our feet on the ground, it's falling into place.
Didn't think it was gonna be disallowed. I had every right to go for it. He dived into me, I've carried on and put it in and yeah... nice goal
I just play the game; VAR gets in the way sometimes, it's annoying, you celebrate, it gets checked, there's the uncertainty then suddenly you're celebrating again.
[Re England] For me, I'm just focusing on my performances, game in game out. Little by little, trying to add goals and all round performance. Hopefully it catches England manager's eye.
I was in Qatar doing rehab and they were building stadiums then. I've one eye on it, yeah.
We need to keep our feet on the ground. We're on a good run and long may it continue.

Eddie Howe interview with Sky Sports:

It was a big win, we were determined to come here and be positive. We deserved the win, there wasn't anything lucky about it. The players deserve a lot of credit for how we attack the game.
They executed the game plan really well. It wasn't without problems: they have a lot of world class players so we needed to adapt with tweaks and adjustments. Credit to players for implementing tactical changes.
Their early long range shots and counter-attacks were dangerous... once we solved things we were okay.
Trying to get info onto the pitch is difficult here because the noise is so loud and it's difficult getting information on. But the players are receptive to what we do.
I haven't seen the first goal again; it looked like they just came together. Why should a collision go in the way of the defending team and not the attacking team?

Almirón is adding goals to his game, he's always been fantastic. At the moment, in front of goal you think he's gonna score.
When you associate money, it takes credit away from players. I'll stand up for the players; a lot of them were here anyway. We've recruited wisely but the credit goes to the performance, not how the team has been put together.
There's a long way to go; it's a very tight division, lots of swings I'm sure throughout the season. Enjoy the moment, we won't get ahead of ourselves. We'll try and win next week and that's how it has to be.
People will talk us up and it's up to us to live up to that, but I don't wanna put external pressure on a group of players who are giving me everything.
It's very important for players to enjoy the moment; I talk to them a lot about when they win - live in that moment as long as they can. It's slightly different for me, I'm already thinking about next week.
