There are lists produced practically every day where someone gives their opinion on who is the best at whatever at a certain given time, but with Four Four Two releasing their list of the Best 100 Players In The World Right Now, that's got to be worth a look, right?

It's obviously worth bearing in mind that there is no science behind this, it's just the collated opinions of the writers at Four Four Two but when three Newcastle United players find their way onto a list ranking the best players in the World we are surely going to take note.

Before the PIF-backed takeover it had been a long time before we had anyone at Newcastle United who could genuinely be considered World Class. We're looking at Alan Shearer as the last one if we're being honest.

We've had some top class players, for sure; Yohan Cabaye and Georginio Wijnaldum spring to mind who stood out head and shoulders above the rest of the team they were playing with, but they still weren't 'World Class'.

Newcastle having three entrants on an independent list like this shows progress

Nowadays Newcastle have three players that most people would count as World Class, and it seems that Four Four Two agree with Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes all included in the Top 100.

These are the three players that the club and the fans know we must keep happy and keep hold of if we want to start challenging for trophies, and naturally, these are the three players who generate the most transfer talk when the trading windows roll around.

Anthony Gordon appears first on the list at 89th, Four Four Two remark at how remarkable it was that Gordon was so underused at Euro 2024.

"England’s wealth of options in attack can be summed up in one stat from the 2024 European Championships. Anthony Gordon spent a grand total of six minutes on the pitch.

"Whilst he does have some tough competition at international level, it is remarkable considering Gordon’s outstanding consistency in 2023/24. Gordon deservedly claimed the Player of the Year award at Newcastle United in his first full season with the Magpies. Ferocious speed and improved decision making has made him one of the best wingers in the top flight."

Alexander Isak is 'one of the best strikers in the Premier League'

Next up for Newcastle is Alexander Isak who appears at number 54, being labeled as one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

"Alexander Isak has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022. The 2023/24 season was the Sweden international’s best yet: he netted 21 goals in just 30 top flight appearances, alerting some of Europe’s biggest clubs and sparking inevitable transfer rumours.

"But the 25-year-old remains at Newcastle, who have ambitions to reach the very top. With Isak leading the line, their chances of success will be significantly higher."

Bruno Guimaraes was well ahead of Bruno Fernandes (60th) so that's that argument sorted

Which leaves Bruno Guimaraes who finds himself a couple of places above his Swedish teammate at 47. Top 50 for Newcastle's Captain. That'll do for us.

"Leave it to a Brazilian defensive midfielder to also be a reliable source of goals and assists. Bruno had an excellent campaign even as Newcastle laboured at times last season, netting a few crucial strikes along the way. That helped make up Eddie Howe’s mind to hand the charismatic Bruno the captain’s armband over the summer.

"His performances have suffered a bit over the start of the season, in truth, which Howe puts down to his having had a hectic year playing constantly both on Tyneside and for Brazil. Not surprising if he needs a rest, though: at time of writing, Bruno’s missed just one game for club or country in all competitions since March 2023, and that was for a yellow-card totting up suspension."

With our Newcastle bias would we have our guys higher on the list? Sure, but it's nice to be recognised. We're also surprised at the lack of Sandro Tonali on the list, but after 10 months on the sidelines, he may have to wait until the next one.
