Here we go, there's a transfer window open so that must mean Newcastle United are about to sell Bruno Guimaraes.

That's journalist logic anyway. The Mirror are reporting that Paris Saint-Germain are readying a £99million bid for Bruno Guimaraes and that Newcastle could be tempted to sell to pump some money back into the coffers.

Why PSG have opted for £99million when Bruno's contract reportedly has a £100million release clause is anyone's guess. Although, it'll probably have something to do with the clauses in said contract - the release clause may not be active yet.

Newcastle could consider selling in the summer

It's very unlikely that, if there is any truth to this, Newcastle won't sell in January but they may well consider it in the summer.

Simon Bird of The Mirror also speculates that Bruno himself could be tempted to move in a bid to play more Champions League football given how it looks increasingly likely that Newcastle will miss out on that competition this year.

I get where Bird is coming from, but I still think we'll get at least another season out of Bruno, unless the PIF has somebody lined up to replace him and needs to sell to fund that deal.

It could go either way

There are only so many times Bruno can tell us how happy he is at Newcastle, if you don't believe him at this point that's more on you than anything else. Of course, being happy in the region doesn't mean he won't move at some point.

It just seems as if PSG are testing the waters if they go in with a £99million bid this month. It's like it's deliberately short of the release clause just to see how our owners, and the player, react to the bid.

We may have to brace ourselves in the summer, especially if we miss out on qualifying for Europe.
