Newcastle United have once again been linked with an interest in Everton and England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
We are a couple of days late to the party with this one but that's because we've only just picked ourselves up off the floor from laughing so hard.
TeamTalk are reporting that Newcastle United, now known as Injury FC are set to reignite their interest in Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the man whose legs are made of tissue paper and pipe cleaners.
When looking to bring in players to fill out an injury-hit squad, eyeballing a player famed for being injured seems like an odd move, no?
Newcastle were looking at DCL back in 2022 when they were quoted a price of £60million by Everton before something happened ... what was it? Oh yes, he picked up an injury, that's right.
To be fair, when he's fit, Calvert-Lewin is one hell of a striker. He's managed 3 goals in just nine outings this season but he has only completed 90 minutes twice. We're being a bit harsh here as he also managed 89 minutes once, but that's not 90, is it?
Calvert-Lewin is entering the final 18 months of his Everton contract and given their current predicament after being handed a 10-point deduction and with uncertainty around ownership, you'd fancy they're in no real position to be offering him a new deal.
With that in mind, Newcastle could potentially pick him up for a steal, or at least far less than the £60million they were quoted last year.
For us, we just can't see beyond his injury record. It wouldn't normally be a huge concern, but he's being brought in to alleviate injury issues, not add to them. It just doesn't make sense.
