Report: More high-profile players are to be handed new contracts at Newcastle after Fabian Schar

Yesterday saw Newcastle United announce that they've signed up Fabian Schar for another year, but it seems that they aren't done handing out contracts yet.

A report in inews has claimed that Newcastle are about to go all Oprah Winfrey with extensions: "You get a contract. And you get a contract. And you get a contract".

Lewis Miley is set to be offered a new deal after his meteoric rise this season and rightly so as the youngster has proven time and time again this season that we have a pure talent on our hands and we must do everything we can to keep him.

At just 17-year-old, Miley has taken to Premier League life like a duck to water, unfazed by anything and anyone he has come up against, Miley has kept a cool head and rarely made any mistakes.

Also in line for a new deal is Sven Botman. The Dutch defender who had an amazing debut season in the Premier League alongside Fabian Schar has definitely proved his worth.

Although this season has been anything but a dream after the 23-year-old has missed more games than he's played due to a knee injury, the fact that he's playing so well despite still being a touch off the pace shows how good he is.

FFP could force Newcastle to sell big players but right now that's not on the agenda

Newcastle know there will come a time when they may have to sell their big players in order to unlock more spending powers due to the restrictions of FFP, but right now it seems the objective is clear: Keep the ones we have for as long as we can.

If the club were to ever sell Lewis Miley, that would mean pure profit for the club with him being an academy product, but we can't see a time where that would be necessary. If Miley continues to develop at this pace then he will grow alongside the club and would be the poster boy for our development.

Sven Botman was brought in to be part of the spine of the side that the club would build around along with Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak, so it would take something drastic for the club to consider selling him too. It's great to see these important figures getting the recognition they deserve.
