Bruno Guimarães is on the verge of signing a new contract at Newcastle United, according to Fabrizio Romano:

The Brazilian international is under contract at St. James' Park until June 2026, but talks about an improved deal have been ongoing for quite some time.

Having joined from Lyon for around £40 million in January 2022, Guimarães is apparently paid around £120,000 per week on his current terms.

However, he is no longer thought to be the club's top earner following the arrivals of Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali in the two summer transfer windows since then.

The expectation is that any new deal would restore his status as Newcastle's highest-paid player, even though his form has tailed off quite significantly over the past 12 months or so.

Speaking about his contract back in July, Bruno alluded to his prospective new deal, saying "There is no news. I want to stay, but the doubt is ongoing. So, let’s see.”

Eddie Howe was then asked about Guimarães' contract issues ahead of the Brighton friendly in New Jersey during pre-season and had the following comments to make:

"We would love Bruno to extend his stay here for a long time.

I’m not party to those talks every day, and there are talks ongoing.

I think Bruno knows how we feel about him and I know he’s very happy here.

We hope there is a solution to be found."

The midfielder was apparently subject to a £100 million bid from Liverpool over the summer if Spanish outlet AS it to be believed.

He is also expecting a second child with his partner Ana, as the couple revealed on Instagram this morning with the following caption:

"How we dream about this moment more! Increasing our family & our happiness!

Thank you my God for all the blessings and accomplishments!"
