Reaction to Fulham hammering, Lasses win again, Bruce on the brink

About yesterday...

Rags' reaction

  • Chris Waugh
"Excellent afternoon for #NUFC, who record first PL win since the opening day. Almiron, Willock & Guimaraes played particularly well, but everyone did, with Wilson's return huge. Red card aided them, but they capitalised superbly. Massive win.

"Eddie Howe said it himself afterwards & yesterday's win did feel like an important point in #NUFC's season. It wrestles back positive momentum at a key stage.

"The most pleasing aspect was how patient #NUFC were; they carved out chances & took four. Hopefully they kick on now."
  • Luke Edwards
"Miguel Almiron is a conundrum. Hard to judge, tricky to assess. It is impossible to dislike him, he brings so much endeavour to a Newcastle United shirt but does not deliver enough moments like he did against Fulham. What he lacks in creativity and goals, and what he cannot give in natural football intelligence and guile, he makes up for with the raw ingredients of hard work, speed and fitness. Yet, few players can be as infuriating."
  • Lee Ryder
"Date #nufc reached 11 points in Premier League last five seasons:

2018/19 - November 26
2019/20 - November 2
2020/21 - November 1
2021/22 - December 27
2022/23 - October 1

Kuol to feature sooner than expected?

"I'd say, at the moment, the plan would probably be, and these things can change, to go on a loan spell from January. Where that is, I've got no idea.

"We're working through various options, but things can change regarding his involvement in the World Cup if he's selected. There are lots of moving parts to that one as well.

"'He's very sharp, agile, quick, a good finisher. He's got a lot of very positive ingredients. That is going to be nurtured and developed in the next couple of years to get him at the right level for the Premier League.

"I met him for the first time in person yesterday and that was a really good conversation - a very confident and dependable lad who has got high motivation, you can see that internally. He had offers, various options. Playing well against Barcelona certainly elevated his status and the potential people that wanted to recruit him.

"Thankfully, we were able to win the race to sign him and we're very pleased to do so. I'm very excited. He's a young player with huge potential. It's a show from myself and the club on where we want to go in terms of signing young players and trying to develop them in our system for them to be Premier League players in the future. He's had a dramatic rise and he's in a position that excites everybody."
