Newcastle v Man U Player Ratings: Man U fans snooze at the "Theater of Dreams" as Toon grab a point

Key Highlights

  • All sort of early chances for NUFC, capped off by a double-post hit by Joelinton who should have scored at the second chance
  • The game was 0-0 at the break, with Newcastle looking the more likely at the break
  • Man U had the best of the early first half, though neither side really looked like scoring in the opening 35 minutes of the half
  • Rashford had the clearest chance of the game in the final seconds but it was headed wide
  • Newcastle picked up a massive point at the Theatre of Snooze

Player Ratings

Nick Pope - 8

Called into action just a few time, Pope almost had a scare as he came out to block Rashford who squared it to Fred who missed the target.

Kieran Trippier - 7

Even if he doesn't get an assist, Trippier shows his class. His dead-balls throughout the game were deadly.

Fabian Schär - 8

A real body on the line performance for Schar, who did all the running and all the blocking for the team.

Sven Botman - 8

Alongside Schar, Botman was a rock as the Newcastle backline held strong.

Dan Burn - 6

While clearly no match for Anthony on the left side, Burn wasn't put out too much by the tricky winger. Even managing to do a solid job as a left-wing back when called upon.

Joelinton - 7

A solid performance for Joelinton as he made his first start since coming back from a small injury

Bruno Guimarães - 7

A classy game for Bruno, who will be annoyed that he couldn't covert a chance created by Wilson. However, he ran the midfield as he does but went off early once again.

Sean Longstaff - 6

Another tricky game for Sean. While he breaks the play up well, he always looks like he wants a second longer than he has on the ball.

Miguel Almirón - 7

Full of running and off the ball work as always. Failed to have the attacking impact that he managed in the previous two games.

Jacob Murphy - 5

"given away by Murphy" is how we'd have to describe Murphy's game today. He had a few good running moments, but wasn't up to the fixture.

Callum Wilson - 6

A frustrating day for Wilson, who lacked the service he would have wanted.

Subs - 6

Came on and did a job for Howe giving the team a fresh set of legs as Man U started to apply pressure.

Our Newcastle v Man U Man of the Match: Schar & Botman

Simply no way we can separate the pair who were solid once again at the back for Newcastle.

Post-Match quotes to follow

I have no comment on the officials. I thought it was a strong shout for a penalty. Callum looked like he caught the lad’s calf when running. I’ve seen them given another day - Howe on Wilson's penalty shout
