Newcastle v Everton Player Ratings: Miggy Meteor wipes out Pickford

Key Highlights

  • A slow opening 25, while Newcastle looked the better of the two
  • Post-25 mark, NUFC looked the better, and it was that man Miggy once again who scored. A beautiful taken curler beats Pickford, who's arms just weren't long enough to reach it
  • The final moments of the half were typically Everton like. If you can't play the game, foul people and mouth off
  • Everton came out with a little more fight in the second half, though the opening 10-minutes were well managed by the Toon
  • Newcastle got back into the game and caused problems for Everton every time they went forward in attack. Howe's changes also played a big part of that at the 60-minute mark as players tired
  • Everton made attempts to get a goal late on, but they were no match for the Toon. The subs changed the game for Newcastle as we continued to push up the league

Miggy (30)

Player Ratings

Nick Pope - 7

Not much to do, but what he did do, he did well. Another clean sheet for England's number 1.

Kieran Trippier - 8

Trippier continues to prove why he might be the best signing of the new ownership. Trippier oozes class and was once again a standout in both attack and defence.

Fabian Schär - 8

Solid at the back, breaking forward and keeping a clean sheet once again. Schar was in the FIFA TOTW for his display against Man U, and he once again proved why he's so valuable to Eddie Howe.

Sven Botman - 8

The Royles Royce is his name and his showed just why again. Everton have looked a lot better in attack this season but Botman, alongside Schar would have made you think otherwise.

Dan Burn - 8

Burn somehow kept Gordan quiet all game, we're not sure how, but there's a reason the 6ft 7" man is keeping Targett out of the starting 11.

Joelinton - 6

Had a solid first 45, though a knock towards the end and a yellow card saw Eddie take him off at half-time.

Bruno Guimarães - 8

Sean Longstaff - 7

Put in a warrior-like performance, as he always does. Still need to release the ball faster, and had he, might have opened the scoring.

Miguel Almirón - 9

The man of the moment, of the season, of the era? Miggy opened the scoring, taking him to 4 goals in 4 games for the season. Miggy went off, probably with an eye to Spurs at the weekend

Jacob Murphy - 7

A much better display from Murphy, who had some great moments of running down the left side. He probably should have challenged Pickford more with his chance early in the second half.

Callum Wilson - 7

Held his own at the top of the park. Wilson is for sure missing the running of Maxi, however, his presence alone causes defenders all sorts of problems.

Subs - 7

The subs came on exactly when they needed to and got Newcastle back in the game. Anderson, Fraser, and especially Willock put the team back into first gear.

Our Newcastle v Man U Man of the Match: Miguel Almirón

A magnificently taken goal, left Pickford without a chance. It was his fourth goal in as many games as Miggy continues his wonderful form this season.

Post-Match quotes to follow

Nick Pope

It was a dream to sign a club like this. I really wanted to come to this club. Ever since I've played at top level, I didn’t want to survive. You want to make your mark at a top team. As soon as I heard I had the opportunity to come, I was over the moon.
